Polarization Spectroscopy: Developed a method for production of aligned molecular samples and for optical spectroscopic studies of such samples, with a range of applications from cancer research to development of flat screens. Author of three widely quoted monographs in the field.
Science and Development: in particular the role of research and S&T education for economic development. Extensive science policy and research evaluation work in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America for several donors and development banks.
